Gutter size and capacity estimator

This tool estimates how many linear feet of gutter your home needs, how many downspouts to plan for, and whether 5-inch or 6-inch gutters can handle your rainfall. Enter your home footprint, choose which eaves get gutters, and add your local heavy-rain intensity.

How this estimate works

Linear feet is the sum of the eave edges you selected. Downspouts are planned at roughly one for every 35 feet of gutter, with at least one per gutter run. The adjusted roof area combines your footprint, roof pitch, and local rain intensity, since a steeper roof and harder rain both send more water to the gutters at once. A 5-inch K-style gutter comfortably drains a moderate roof area, while a 6-inch gutter with larger downspouts is the safer choice once that adjusted area climbs.
