K-style vs half-round gutters

What is the difference between K-style and half-round gutters?

K-style gutters have a flat back and a decorative front profile that looks a bit like crown molding. They are the most common style in North America and complement a wide range of home designs. Because the back is flat, they mount directly to the fascia.

Half-round gutters are a smooth U-shaped trough. They suit older, classic, and historic homes, and the rounded shape lets debris and water flow through more freely, so they tend to clog less.

On capacity, a 5-inch K-style holds more water than a 5-inch half-round because the angular shape creates a deeper channel. K-style is also usually cheaper and easier to find.

Half-round gutters are often chosen for looks, especially in copper or zinc, and they are common on heritage properties. Expect to pay more for half-round in any material.
