Signs you need new gutters
How do I know when it is time to replace my gutters?
Gutters fail gradually, so it helps to know the warning signs. Cracks or splits, even small ones, grow over time and let water through. Rust spots or orange staining on steel gutters mean the protective coating is gone.
Sagging gutters or sections pulling away from the fascia mean the hangers or the wood behind them are failing. Pooled water or mildew lines inside the gutter point to poor slope or clogs.
Look at the ground too. Eroded soil, pooling water, or a damp basement near the foundation often trace back to gutters that overflow or drain too close to the house.
Peeling exterior paint, rotting fascia boards, and water marks below the gutters are all signs the system is no longer doing its job. If you are seeing several of these, replacement is usually cheaper than repeated repairs and water damage.
